Rather than have a series of races throughout the year and an aggregate score giving an eventual annual winner singleClub 500 race days are now being added to the calendar with a winner being identified on each individual day. The racing is specifically designed to attract newcomers and in particular youngsters to the sport and to the club so standardboats built out-of-the-box are used with the emphasis being on having fun rather than getting too serious. The first of these race days was held on the 22nd July 2012, which was more to test whether there was enough enthusiasm torecommence such events, with proper scrutineering and race rules being adhered to. All boats will be checked to ensure thatthey conform to the rules and all competitors will be marshalled individually to ensure that rules are complied with and everythingis as fair as possible. Heats will consist of a maximum of four boats to help alleviate the mayhem that can happen with a largerfield and buoyed courses and a starting gate ensure that racing conditions are consistent throughout the events. It is hoped that Club 500 racing will become a regular event again at Kirklees Model Boat Club and the rules being used by theclub will ensure that the most skilful skippers will become the winners.
