The Wednesday
Sailing consists
of KMBC members who have the great good
fortune not to be working and can therefore
enjoy sailing on Wednesday afternoons.
Everything is very relaxed and anyone
wishing to come along is most welcome to do
so.
We have
started a sailing competition this year and
the rules, which have been devised in an
attempt to allow anyone to sail anything
with a chance of winning, are detailed
below. Any club member who can find the time
is welcome to join in on the second
Wednesday of every month, from February to
November. Each race will cost £0.50 with the
proceeds being donated to charity at the end
of the year. This is a great chance to sail
any wind-powered (mono-hull) boat against
"all-comers" and the preliminary, ad hoc.
trial races have been very close with
numerous different members finishing in the
top three. (Very much as intended.)
If you fancy yacht racing in a relaxed and
very friendly atmosphere, albeit with lots
of banter, please come along.
WEDNESDAY SAILING RULES
1. Sailing will take place on the
second Wednesday of each month commencing
February and terminating in November. This
provides for ten races.
2. Any solely wind-powered vessel may
enter.
3. The course to be sailed will use
either buoys (if available) or sailing to
flags positioned around the lake and
attaching pegs to the yacht to confirm
arrival at the flag.
4. Yachts will start from the bank-side
and sail around the back of the central
(Yellow) buoy prior to starting the course
which will be confirmed on the day. To
complete the race, yachts will sail around
the back of the yellow buoy again after
finishing the course. The race will finish
once the yacht has "cleared" the yellow
buoy.
5. Yachts at or less than 29.5" in
length will sail the declared course which
will generally be of three "laps" duration.
Yachts above this length will sail one full
extra circuit.
6. Scores will be awarded based on the
number of contestants present each time a
race is held. The formula will be:-
Winner gets (number of contestants +2
points)
Second gets (number of contestants)
Third gets (number of contestants - 1)
Fourth gets (number of contestants - 2)
........ETC
7. Scores and "League Tables" will be
published in the club newsletter and
circulated to members on request.
8. A £0.50 entry fee will be levied
with all proceeds being given to a charity
chosen by members at the end of the
year.
9. The overall winner of the league
will be determined from a consideration of
the best five results achieved by an entrant
over the course of the year.
10. A trophy will be acquired which will be
retained by the winner for 12 months.
NOTE:- These initial rules have been
compiled following numerous discussions,
circulation of a draft for consideration,
followed by further debate. It is hoped that
they incorporate the best of all ideas
suggested. Unless we experience any
exceptionally unusual circumstances it is
proposed to maintain these rules for at
least one complete racing season. If anyone
has any strenuous objection to this, please
raise the issue at pond-side asap.
Thanks to everyone for their input.
